blueweasel net accessibility standards.

We believe in equal opportunities and equal access, and so wherever possible we attempt to make all of our web programming equally accessible to people of all abilities.

The main way that we achieve this is by following the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) standards at all levels of design.

Some of the methods used to achieve this are listed here:

  • Images & animations: Alternative text describes each visual element.
  • Image maps: Client-side maps and text is used for hotspots.
  • Multimedia: Captioning and transcripts of audio, and descriptions of video are provided.
  • Hypertext links: Text that makes sense when read out of context is used. For example, "click here." is avoided.
  • text visibility: Small fonts are avoided or are user resizable. High contrast text and backgrounds are used.
  • Page organization: Headings, lists, and consistent structure are used. CSS is used for layout and style where possible.
  • Graphs & charts: Summary text is provided to describe these.
  • Scripts, applets, & plug-ins: Alternative content is provided in case active features are inaccessible or unsupported.
  • Frames: The noframes element and meaningful titles are used. Preferably frames are avoided.
  • Tables: The table is structured to make line-by-line reading sensible. Summaries are provided if required.
  • Screen readers: We test our sites using text only browsers. This provides the best chance of vision impaired users successfully using the site.
  • Work is checked and validated: guidelines from the following are used:
